Financial Market Analysis & News app
Responsible for defining the UX & Visual Design for the Windows 10 app
This app enables financial professionals to stay connected to market moving events from anywhere. The mobile experience is synchronised with the desktop, providing instant access to industry analysis and information at anytime.
Our objective was to assist the client in the design and development of a universal Windows proof of concept app - designed for small, medium and large screens. I was the sole designer on the project responsible for defining the UX and Visual design.
I started by familiarising myself with the iOS version. I mapped out a high level navigation map to help me consider where it may differ from the Windows version considering the different controls.
I found the biggest challenge was organising the content - the app was content heavy with a large number of categories and sub categories.
I worked closely with another designer to sketch the structure and flow of the app. This helped us get some ideas out quickly and start discussing them as a team. It was decided quite early on in the design phase the content would lend itself well to a hierarchical structure, utilising the hub control as the entry point.
The hub control is designed to surface the app's highlights in sections encouraging users to explore deeper, much like that of a magazine cover. This would also aid navigation if the hub was difficult to navigate by allowing the user to pinch + zoom to list just the section headers. The user could then jump quickly to the desired section of the app.
Throughout the design phase we also allocated white boarding sessions with the client - these proved invaluable in gaining customer insight and sharing knowledge. A scrum-based agile process ensured the customer received the necessary design documents at the point of handover.
