Define the UX and Visual Design for a Universal Windows 8.1 app
This app enables financial professionals to stay connected to market moving events from anywhere. The mobile experience is synchronised with the desktop, providing instant access to industry analysis and information at anytime.
Our objective was to assist the client in the design and development of a Windows 8.1 proof of concept app. I was the sole designer on the project - leading the UX and Visual design across small, medium and large screens.

My biggest challenge was organising the content - the app was content heavy with a large number of categories and sub categories.
I worked closely with another designer to sketch the structure and flow of the app. This helped us get some ideas out quickly and start discussing them as a team. It was decided quite early on in the design phase that the content would lend itself well to a hierarchical structure, utilising the hub control as the entry point.
The hub control (homepage) was customisable and had the potential to become quite difficult to navigate. Could the user easily locate categories surfaced on a long horizontally scrolling hub? We managed to overcome this issue by utilising a native Windows control.
We allocated some white boarding sessions with the client - these proved invaluable in gaining customer insight and sharing knowledge. We looked at how content would respond across small, medium and large screen sizes.
Throughout the design phase I worked closely with the client and the development team. A scrum-based agile process ensured the customer received the necessary UX documents and visual designs at the point of handover.
